Phalaenopsis Orchid Care & Maintenance
Light Level: Mid to high light levels, a north or east-facing window is perfect. Without enough light, your orchid will not produce many flowers.
Air Level: Orchids live in bark based potting mix as the roots require air to breathe. The pots should have proper drainage. Keep in a place with higher humidity.
Water: Orchids should be watered just as they dry out. When the media on the surface appears dry, it’s time to water. If you are unsure, wait another day. Watering in the morning is best. Different growers have different methods of watering. just be sure to thoroughly wet the media when watering and allow time to drain.
You can water your orchid by placing the entire pot into a bowl that is as deep as the bark line. Poor room temperature water over the bark till it fills to just below the lip of the pot. let the bark soak for about 15 minutes and then return the Orchid back to bright light.
Fertilizing: Orchids should be fertilized monthly Use a balanced fertilizer (20-20-20) diluted to half strength.
Trimming and Upkeep: After the Orchid is done blooming you can cut the stem. Some cut the stem to the base and others cut up to an inch above the second node.
