Full or Part Time Cashier/Team Member

General Description / Purpose

The cashier’s role is to ensure that each and every customer is served in a friendly, professional, and timely manner. This includes greeting customers processing orders through the POS system. Our cashiers are the “face of Farmer John’s” as they might be the first and sometimes only face the customer may see. This person will process customer transactions, resolve customer issues and maintain their assigned areas.

Responsibilities

· Greet customers in a friendly and welcoming manner.

· Record customer items into the POS system, ensuring each and every item is accurately entered.

· Identify customer issues/complaints and take necessary steps to resolve them including getting assistance from other departments.

· Keep the “register station” stocked with all necessary items.

· Clean and organize the “register stations” when necessary.

· Sweep aisles B & C each night and clean restrooms at the end of your shift.

· Notify the Supervisor of all customer POS System issues.

· Perform other related duties as requested.

· Adhere to the specifications outlined in your Employment Packet.

· Communicate respectfully at all times.

· Participate actively in all staff meetings.

· Learn and adapt to new tasks or situations quickly and cooperatively.

· Handle cash, credit or check transactions with customers

· Scan items and collect payments

· Ensure pricing is correct

· Issue change, receipts, refunds, or tickets

· Redeem stamps and coupons

· Count money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change

· Make sales referrals, cross-sell products and introduce new products.

· Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information

· Bag, box and wrap items carefully.

· Greet customers when entering or leaving establishment

· Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas

· Keep reports of transactions

· Process returns and check to see if items are damaged

· Answer customer’s questions and involve a manager if answer doesn’t solve the issue.

· Deal with our customers in a pleasant manner to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Pay: $12.00-14.00

Garden Supplies Buyer

$18.00/Hour

Purpose

This position is responsible for all aspects of maintaining all Garden Center/chemical areas including all back stock products in the warehouse. This will include hard goods and live goods merchandise (as needed).

Responsibilities

As the Garden Supply Buyer, it is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable and service-oriented, as you must be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:

  • Purchase products as needed for all areas; including pre-season purchasing, weekly re-orders, new and upcoming products/promotions/etc.
  • Frequently monitoring sales and inventory.
  • Insure that all products as needed per season are placed and promoted on the floor.
  • Consistent and constant re-merchandising to maintain standards and presentation of all garden center areas. This area includes all pottery aisles (plastic and ceramic), trellises, shepherd’s hooks, and various spaces where the product is located throughout the store.
  • Daily maintenance and consolidation of both pottery areas.
  • Garden department inventory and accuracy, regularly writing off the damaged products.
  • Ticket, arrange, and display merchandise to promote sales.
  • Rotation and disposition of dated products on the floor and back stock in the warehouse.
  • Garden Center price changes/markdowns, signage, presentation
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Flexibility to change required hours as seasons change.
  • Be available and approachable on the floor each day to assist with all customer needs.
  • Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs. Ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Consistently clean and organize assigned areas to ensure store standards.
  • Provide Legendary Service and take the initiative to support selling initiatives:
    • Greet the customer
    • Uncover the customer’s needs
    • Recommend products
  • Maintain correct counts and order propane, as needed to support store and customer needs
  • Communicate proactively and regularly with General Manager on work completion, issues, and offer solutions to overcome.
  • Provide peak coverage during main selling days/times
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding returns/exchanges.
  • Team Members also may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience: A passion for gardening and being outside is required. Prior horticulture, nursery, or greenhouse experience is preferred. A strong desire and ability to share knowledge and passion of plants/plant care to our customers generating solutions to drive store sales is preferred. Prior retail and/or merchandising experience is preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities:

  •  Horticulture, Garden Center, or plant nursery knowledge is preferred.
  • A passion for gardening is required.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.
  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to complete assignments with little to no assistance.

Full or Part-Time Customer Service Positions

Description:

The role of the Front Counter position is to ensure that each and every customer is served in a friendly, professional and timely manner. You will need to remain calm when customers are frustrated and some experience working with computers would be helpful.

    Job responsibilities:

    • Develop creative merchandising displays that balance customers’ expectations and company’s objectives
    • Maximize customer interest and sales levels by displaying products appropriately
    • Maintaining store shelves and inventory
    • Work to create inspirational displays with both real and artificial flowers
    • Responsible for walking the store every day and keeping all store displays full and clean at all times
    • Always keep a clean, and organized work space.

    Purpose

    We are looking for associates with excellent communication skills to assist customers, stock shelves and rotate products in the dry goods (garden supply/chemical) area of our greenhouse. This fast-paced job often requires moderate lifting (up to 50lbs.).
