Job Title: Greenhouse Team member

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plant Care and Maintenance:
    • Watering, fertilizing, pruning, and pest control to ensure healthy plant growth.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe greenhouse environment.
  2. Product movement:
    • Unload daily trucks as required
    • Tag and prep product for floor as required
    • Implement product movement as directed by management
  3. Customer Service:
    • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by addressing questions and concerns promptly.
    • Provide expert advice to customers on plant care and product selection.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in greenhouse or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of plant care.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.  

Work Environment:
The role involves working in varying conditions, including hot and humid environments. Physical activity such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods is required.  Ability to lift 50+ lbs is required.

Job Purpose:

The Merchandise Team Member is responsible for delivering an exceptional shopping experience while supporting store operations through accurate pricing, signage, and attractive visual presentations. This role ensures efficient merchandise movement, appealing displays, and a well-organized store environment to drive sales and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service and ensure customers are the #1 priority.
  • Assist customers with locating products and provide a helpful, friendly shopping experience.

 Visual Merchandising:

  • Create, maintain, and update visually compelling displays in windows, ledges, shelves, and throughout the store.
  • Collaborate with peers and supervisors to set up promotional and sales events, including signage and banners.
  • Pull merchandise to create engaging visual presentations.

 Merchandise Management:

  •  Execute merchandise processing, including unpacking, sorting, and organizing products to meet floor-ready standards.
  • Ensure timely replenishment of stock on the sales floor and maintain backroom organization.
  • Flex between tasks such as pricing, signing, replenishment, and stockroom maintenance based on business needs.

 Store Operations:

  •  Maintain supply areas, stockroom organization, and building lighting as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with shortage control processes and maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks such as fixture setup, painting, and signage installation using basic tools.

 Team Collaboration:

  •  Work closely with managers, leads, and colleagues to maintain a clean, neat, and organized store environment.
  • Support peers with merchandise-related tasks and adapt to changing priorities as directed by supervisors.

 Skills and Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
    1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
    2. At least 2 years of experience in merchandising

 Knowledge & Skills:

  • Principles of customer service, including needs assessment and satisfaction evaluation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Resourceful, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

 Physical Requirements:

  •  Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 10 hours/day).
  • Frequent reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfort working indoors in varying environmental conditions (e.g., heat during greenhouse seasons).

 Technical Proficiency:

  •  Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Familiarity with tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, staple guns, and box cutters for tasks like signage and fixture setup.

 Work Context

  • Requires interaction with customers, peers, and supervisors in person and electronically.
  • May involve dealing with challenging or discourteous individuals.
  • Must meet strict deadlines and adjust actions based on team needs.

Full or Part-Time Customer Service Positions

Description:

General Description:

The primary role of the Front Counter position is to ensure that every customer receives friendly, professional, and timely service. Responsibilities include managing customer inquiries and complaints, processing purchases, scheduling deliveries, and answering phone calls.

The ideal candidate will be able to remain calm and composed when addressing frustrated customers and will bring a positive, solutions-focused attitude to the team. Basic computer experience is beneficial for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward customers at all times.
  • Greet all customers in a friendly and welcoming manner.
  • Identify customer issues/complaints and take necessary steps to resolve them including getting assistance from other departments.
  • Being able to multi-task.
  • Communicate respectfully at all times.
  • Some knowledge of plants would be helpful.
  • Keep the “register station” stocked with all necessary items, clean and organize when necessary.
  • Overseeing of other Customer Service staff.
  • Learn and adapt to new tasks or situations quickly and cooperatively.
  • Required to open and/or close all register stations, count money and ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change for the next day.
  • Check customers out for their purchases, handle exchanges and returns.
  • Enter and schedule deliveries and pick-up using the computer and communicating with the warehouse.

Front Counter /Customer Service Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year experience with management/leadership role
  • 1 + years of experience in customer service related role
  • Basic computer skills and excellent phone disposition
  • Ability to stay calm when customers are stressed or upset.
  • Positive, service -oriented attitude

Garden Supplies Team Member

Full time/part time evening and weekend positions available

Purpose

Farmer John’s is a family-owned, high-end garden center, landscape design service, and boutique in Farmington Hills. We are proud to have a supportive and fun group of employees! We strive to create an enjoyable working environment and we’d love to have you join us. We are looking for associates with excellent communication skills to assist customers, stock shelves, and rotate products in the dry goods (garden supply/chemical) area of our greenhouse. This fast-paced job often requires moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs.).

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with plants preferred
  • Short-term on-the-job training

  • Answer customers’ questions about merchandise and advise customers on merchandise selection.
  • Change price tags on merchandise if/when needed.
  • Stock shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with new or transferred merchandise.
  • Unpack and place sales floor merchandise.
  • Clean display cases, shelves, and aisles.
  • Maintain advertising signs and displays of merchandise on shelves, counters, or tables to attract customers and promote sales.
