Bell peppers bring the sweet and come in shades from green to red to golden yellow. These sunshine-loving veggies are surprisingly easy to grow and love warm weather just as much as we do. Whether you’re stuffing them, slicing them raw, or grilling them to perfection, sweet peppers are sure to make any plate shine.

Basic Care info

Grow in sunny, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil or containers.

Water well after planting – maintain 1” – 2″ of water once a week throughout the growing season.

Feed with a slow-release fertilizer during the growing season.

Mulch 2″ to suppress weeds, retain moisture, and protect against extremes of soil temperature.

Stake, cage, or trellis as needed.

Look for several varieties and colors of bell peppers including ‘Big Bertha’, ‘Chocolate Wonder’, ‘Golden California Wonder’, and ‘Red Knight’. There is an excellent selection of European stuffers and fryers such as ‘Cubanelle’, ‘Giant Marconi’, ‘Gypsy’, and ‘Sweet Romanian’. Generally, sweet peppers are excellent for fresh eating, salads, grilling, stuffing, and frying.

Look for a few scorching SUPER hot peppers like ‘Trinidad Scorpion’, ‘Carolina Reaper’, and the popular ‘Ghost Pepper’ starting the season slowly, but forming good yields of 2-3″ long, wrinkled, thin walled, pointed peppers that ripen to a deep red. They are rated at the top of the Scoville Heat Unit (SHU)scale over 1 million units! As with all hot peppers, please use EXTREME CAUTION when handling and eating them. These SUPER hot peppers can be used fresh or dried in tremendously hot sauces and extremely spicy dishes.
