History
As a young man raised in Milford Michigan Richard Zoner was a vegetable farmer growing crops such as corn, tomatoes, and pumpkins to be sold at his road side stand in the early 1960’s. From the 1968-1978 Mr. Zoner owned two farm markets. Zoners Farm Market in Novi, MI and one in White Lake, MI. While running these farm markets he farmed 200 acres of vegetables, that he sold for wholesale and retail. At this time The Eastern Market in Detroit was a very active place for Michigan farmers to wholesale there products. Mr. Zoner would go to the Eastern market daily and sell the vegetables he had raised for wholesale.
In 1978 Mr. Zoner sold the markets and bought the greenhouse now known as Farmer John’s Greenhouse in Farmington Hills (formally Brainers Greenhouse) Mr. Zoner decided to name this location after his father John. At this time he began to raise flowers and perennial plants for retail to be used for customers homes. With this location growing more each year. Mr. Zoner purchased a 150 acre farm in Stockbridge MI where he planted 75,000 Christmas tress for wholesale and cut your own.
Now with 45 years of gardening experience Farmer John’s is still growing high quaility plants and providing the surrounding areas with the best selection of indoor and outdoor plants in the metro area.
